Each month we provide some key areas where MGGA leaders and staff have been working on your behalf. Here is a sampling of important issues and activities for June 2024:

  • President Heilig received approval from the NAWG Operations & Planning Committee for the National sWHEATstakes.  Tickets will be $100 per ticket, selling 4,000 tickets. Raffle items are: 2024 Ford F-350 Lariat Pickup, 2024 Polaris Adventure SxS, 2024 John Deere Zero Turn Mower and $10,000 cash.  The proposal then went to the Board of Directors which passed unanimously. The raffle will kick off August 1. Contact the office for more information.
  • Summer Board Meeting was a very productive meeting and Columbia Grain graciously hosted us at their Great Falls meeting room.  NAWG presented on the Farm Bill, JCCS presented the Financial Audit review, Shawna Severson gave an update on membership, the board discussed financial goals, Pinion presented a proposal for a membership benefit and Montana Wheat and Barley Committee and Montana Pulse Crop Committee gave updates.
  • We celebrated our 40th Annual Golf Tournament with a 1940’s themed Dinner & Calcutta. It was great to see friends and we are grateful for the success of the Calcutta. The weather for the golf tournament was perfect and a good time was had by all.
  • EVP Vergeront attended the Montana Pulse Crop Committee Board Meeting in Havre. Montana Grain Growers Association received the 2025 Grant Award to continue their partnership with the Montana Pulse Crop Committee.
  • EVP Vergeront, Treasurer Sheffels and Director Paul Bradley attended the National Barley Growers Association Summer Meeting in Minneapolis. Growers gave updates from across the country, from Minnesota to Washington! And of course, we discussed Farm Bill and Ag Appropriations. We also took in the opportunities to tour Syngenta and Rahr Malting. Friends, drink more barley!
  • President Heilig attended the Summer Board Meeting for Montana Wheat and Barley Committee in Red Lodge.
  • EVP Vergeront worked with U.S. Senator Tester’s staff regarding the St. Mary siphon failure. MGGA sent a letter to House leadership asking for swift passage of S.B. 1987, Fort Belknap Indian Community Water Rights Settlement of 2024 that includes emergency funding to rehabilitate the Milk River Project.
  • MGGA sponsored the lunch for Central Ag Research Center Field Day in Moccasin. It was great to see Director Paul Bradley and Past Director Greg Mathews in attendance.
