MGGA Secretary Attends National Barley Growers Association in Billings
Billings – Last week, Montana Grain Growers Association Secretary, Boyd Heilig, attended the meeting in Billings. NBGA President, Montana’s very own, Buzz Mattlin said it was great to see everyone in person after the pandemic.
Montana provided great speakers such as; Leslie Rispens, Acting Montana State FSA Director, Hannah Turner, Barley, Malt & Brewing Lab with Montana State University, Jamie Sherman, Montana State University Barley Breeder and Taylor Brown with Northern Ag Network. Laura Wood Peterson with LWP Consulting spoke about Climate, Carbon, Sustainability: Trends, Outlook & Impacts for Ag. Attendees also discussed policy, trade and grower and industry updates. Also noted was the fact China had stepped up their buying of all US commodities including malt and feed barley.
MGGA Secretary Boyd Heilig said, “My biggest take away from the meeting was how important sustainability statements have become in every form of business these days. Heilig added, “Much time was spent drawing up a statement that fits the NBGA. Consumers are very concerned with the sustainability of the source of their food.”
The Montana Grain Growers Association is a commodity specific organization representing the interests of Montana wheat and barley growers. We use the contacts and experience gained over the past 60+ years to affect the laws, regulations and rules that we farm by. We are recognized as an influential commodity organization in our state and country and we use that influence to make things happen.
